I certainly agree with you on A Brief History of the Dead, the premise of which still haunts me to this day. Of course, the bleak journey of The Road I also found wonderfully depressing, although I felt the ending was a bit too tidily resolved. I've not read any of the other books you list. Any you would recommend right off the bat?
